Stainless Steel Forged Flanges are stainless steel flange connectors processed by forging technology, mainly used for connection interfaces between pipes, valves, pumps and other equipment. The product is made of stainless steel material and forged under high temperature and high pressure conditions, which effectively improves the density and isotropic uniformity of the material and reduces the probability of internal defects. The forging process can control the grain refinement and fiber structure orientation, thereby enhancing its load-bearing capacity and structural stability.

 

 

Features

 

Excellent corrosion resistance
Stainless steel forged flanges are made of austenitic stainless steel materials with high chromium content (such as 304, 316, 316L, etc.). The chromium content is usually above 18%, which can spontaneously form a passivation film on the surface of the material to improve corrosion resistance. During the forging process, the metal grains are oriented along the deformation direction, eliminating defects such as pores and inclusions that may exist in the casting process, further enhancing the density and corrosion resistance of the material. The pitting potential of 316L material is about 200 mV higher than that of 304 in an environment with a chloride ion concentration of 1000 ppm, indicating that it has stronger pitting resistance and is suitable for highly corrosive media environments such as chemical and marine environments.

 

Excellent mechanical properties and structural integrity
The forging process plastically deforms the metal billet through high temperature and high pressure, optimizes the grain structure inside the metal, and makes the grains oriented along the deformation direction to form a continuous streamline, eliminating defects such as pores and inclusions in the original cast material. Taking ASTM A182 F316L stainless steel as an example, its tensile strength in the forged state can reach 485 MPa and its yield strength is 170 MPa, which is about 10-20% higher than that of castings. This dense and uniform organizational structure enables forged flanges to maintain excellent strength and toughness under extreme working conditions such as high pressure and high temperature, reducing the risk of failure due to material defects and extending the service life.

 

Excellent adaptability to high temperature and high pressure
Stainless steel forged flanges use high temperature grade materials such as 316H, and their tensile strength remains above 415 MPa at up to 538°C. During the forging process, the material undergoes multiple thermal deformation treatments to form a stable austenite structure, avoiding the embrittlement problem caused by grain boundary precipitation phases. The high temperature yield strength of the forged flange is more than 10% higher than that of the cast or rolled product, ensuring that premature creep or plastic deformation does not occur in the high temperature pipeline system, and is suitable for high temperature and high pressure environments such as petroleum, chemical industry, and electric power.

 

Precise dimensions and sealing performance
The forging process can achieve near-net-shape forming, with small machining allowances, and the finished product dimensional error can be controlled within ±0.5 mm. The wall thickness uniformity at the forged flange joint is better than that of the casting, which effectively avoids stress concentration at the joint caused by wall thickness deviation. The surface roughness after processing can be controlled within Ra1.6–3.2 μm, which is conducive to the sealed connection with the pipeline system. Through metallographic structure testing, the grain size of the forged flange reaches above level 5, and the internal structure is uniform, thereby improving the connection reliability and anti-leakage ability, and is suitable for high-pressure sealing systems.
